With the hay shortage in Alberta this year, we really could not afford to go to the 2 day auction where we lost Adorado, but I could not stay home; I felt that if ever the auction horses and foals needed us, they needed us this year - at a time when high feed costs are being cited by horse owners as a reason for downsizing, and more than the usual numbers are flooding the many auction markets.  Attending the 2 day auction on September 26 and 27, 2015 was beyond challenging, as most of the horses did not get the chance at the life they so deserved.  Enduring the heartbreak of that sale, however, ultimately means that we have 9 lives to celebrate, as it led to us bringing home 3 pregnant mares (one with a foal at side), 4 foals, and 2 yearlings.

september 27, 2015:  safe.

October 2015:  "EstellE":  This stunning 5 month old dun filly is one of the foals from the september auction who will be available for adoption after her 3 week quarantine.  She is very curious and i can touch her but I she doesn't seem to have been handled. I was told by the seller (Who i contacted from the auction EID form) that her mom and sire were both registered appaloosas. I  may be able to get a new application and transfer for this foal, as they were apparently provided to the auction mart, but not given over to us.  I have to say that I just love this little filly - she's got a unique energy about her; confident but sweet. And look at her!

THis palomino paint type colt was one of 6 three month old foals we picked up from the auction in august 2015.  Tiny, and as cute as they come, he was adopted very quickly, and has gone to his new home on vancouver island - the awesome thing is that his new family also adopted the black filly we saved from the same sale.  HIs new family has named him "Dakota."

December 2015 update: "sebastian"  was adopted right after the august 2015 auction but has come back  to us through no fault of his own.  he is a total sweetheart but needs some tlc.

Nine special lives were saved over the meat buyers on in 2014 at the auction marking the 2 year anniversary of the Auction where Peaches lost Adorado -  weanling Sam, and yearling, Soli, went to their new home right after their quarantine with us, whereas 10 year old Sonita, a gorgeous bay mare who was in foal, stayed.  Five of these babies, Cheri, Belle, Evie, Deva, and Kahlua, are available to approved homes.

FaLL/WINTER 2014: My barn name is "cheri" (as in Mon Cheri); I am a RED ROAN WEANLING FILly; my dam's name is "red Mara", and my sire is "reynold's salty."  my registration is pending.  I was unhandled when I arrived, and was very flighty and afraid of people, but I am now halter trained and leading nicely, and am comfortable going in and out of a stall - i like to stay inside on cold nights with a friend.  I'm very friendly and have a very gentle temperament.  i am also very flashy, and that name actually shows up in my pedigree!  I am from the same breeder as the blue roan filly, belle.

October 2015 update:  cheri is just a pleasure to be around, and work with; she is confident, but also very willing - she's good for the farrier now and retains what she learns.  She's quite tall for a quarter horse yearling, and has really filled out nicely.

FaLL/WINTER 2014:  I am a pretty Bay Weanling Filly - my barn name is Evie.  but my sire is "pabs san tivio," and my dam is "skip hop snap."  my registration with aqha is pending.   I am a very curious little filly - i stand and study everyone and everything that goes on around me and although i am still not sure about people, i like to approach and check out anyone who comes into the foal paddock.  as of January, i will even let you kiss me on the nose as i'm checking you out!  my training will be starting very soon - on the halter and lead.

FAll/WINTER 2014: i am a beautiful AQHA registered bay filly with chrome; my registered name is lenas flashy cue bar, and i have been given the barn name, "deva," in memory of a special tb filly who was owned by a wonderful person who is sponsoring me.   i was sent to auction by the same breeder who sent the  little 'teddy pirate.'   the vet has examined me and i do have a small hernia that may require surgery, but i am told i'm perfect otherwise, conformation wise.  i haven't started my halter training yet, but i've come a long way in the past few months as i was quite scared of people, and now i like to come up to see who is who.  i will start my training very soon.

OCTOBER 2015:  "COLE" IS ONE OF THE BABIES WE SAVED FROM THE SEPTEMBER 2 DAY SEPTEMBER 2015 SALE.  HE DIDN'T COME WITH ANY PAPERS, BUT ACCORDING TO HIS FORMER OWNER, HIS MOM WAS A BLUE ROAN- A REGISTERED QUARTER HORSE - AND HIS SIRE WAS A BLACK THOROUGHBRED FROM NORTHERN DANCER LINES.  IT'S PRETTY CLEAR FROM HIS COLOUR THAT HE'S GOING TO ROAN OUT, AND FROM HIS BUILD, THAT HE'S GOING TO BE TALL - AND HE SHOULD BE SUITABLE FOR A NUMBER OF DISCIPLINES.  THIS GORGEOUS COLT HASN'T BEEN HANDLED.  HE WAS STILL ON HIS MOM AT AUCTION, AND SHE SOLD TO THE MEAT BUYER, SO HE HAS BEEN THROUGH A LOT IN HIS SHORT LIFE.

"gia" is a palomino yearling filly from the september 2015 auction; she was with a group of yearlings who someone bid on privately, but ultimately lost to a meat buyer.  I really don't know a lot about her history as the auction form only says that she is a 1 year old quarter horse. But what i do know from being around her is that she is very loving - she just stands quietly to be petted and i can literally hug her.  I noticed after getting her home and spending some time with her that she has some opaqueness in a spot on her left eye, so she appears to have had an old injury or ulcer  to it that was never treated.  that must have been very painful, but our vet has confirmed that she has vision in that eye, and opines that the 'spot' on her eye  may get smaller as she gets older.  and Gia has a lot to look forward to now!

october 16, 2015: "MAGNUS" is a very cute little yearling stud colt from the September 2015 auction is available for adoption. He is a super friendly, quiet buckskin, and can be AQHA registered - has has some nice cutting lines. He needs some TLC but he's getting it here. His left rear ankle is enlarged, and I think this may be due to an old injury but I'm going to get the vet to look at it when she comes out to geld him next week. I just dewormed him today, as we are three weeks into quarantine, and everyone is healthy so far - which is awesome! I just cannot even express how loving this colt behaves around me.  he is a down to earth little charmer.

We didn't intend to go to any horse sales in the summer, but I received a call from someone on August 22nd asking whether I would trailer a 3 month old foal if she saved one out of a group of six; I could not say not, and she did get that foal...and I ended up at the auction mart that night, picking up the other 5 as well .... 1 colt was adopted right away, while Dakota, Molly, Cinnabar, and Aiden became available for adoption.

august 23rd, 2015 - 6 babies recover from their auction experience.

"cinnabar" was said to be 3 months old when we got her at the august 2015 auction, but she was pretty tiny and underweight.   according to her application for registration, she's a solid paint.  she is very leggy (and straight), and she's got a captivating little face and energy about her.

"Aiden", from the august 2015 auction, is quite tiny and adorable.  we've haltered him once alreadyand he is  beginning to trust us.  he was supposed to come with papers but thy don't appear to be legitimate, so he's a mystery in terms of his breeding; the consigner described him on the auction form as an apha (paint) weanling.  he's probably going to be a liver chestnut, and there is no denying that chrome is there to stay!

update - as of january 14, 2015: due to potential health issues associated with my breeding, i am going to be staying at the home of adorado!  - for full details please check the January Blog post on me******************           Fall/WINTER 2014: My barn name is "Teddy pirate" (I was named in memory of a special someone) - I'm so sweet that I could never really pirate anything but love and I am like a little teddy bear, so i've been  barn named the "Teddy Pirate."   I'm registered with AQHA as "peppys skip otoe."  I  was sent to auction at under three months of age, so was very tiny when i arrived at adorado's legacy, but i have grown my conformaton is just as perfect as that of my foal mates.  I am very confident despite my relatively small stature, and although i was untouched when i arrived at adorado's home, I am already comfortable on the halter, and leading like a star halter horseI have stayed inside in a stall with kahlua during really cold weather this winter, and i lead in and out of the barn really nicely.
