OUR ADOPTABLE FOALS:
With the hay shortage in Alberta this year, we really could not afford to go to the 2 day auction where we lost Adorado, but I could not stay home; I felt that if ever the auction horses and foals needed us, they needed us this year - at a time when high feed costs are being cited by horse owners as a reason for downsizing, and more than the usual numbers are flooding the many auction markets. Attending the 2 day auction on September 26 and 27, 2015 was beyond challenging, as most of the horses did not get the chance at the life they so deserved. Enduring the heartbreak of that sale, however, ultimately means that we have 9 lives to celebrate, as it led to us bringing home 3 pregnant mares (one with a foal at side), 4 foals, and 2 yearlings.
Nine special lives were saved over the meat buyers on in 2014 at the auction marking the 2 year anniversary of the Auction where Peaches lost Adorado - weanling Sam, and yearling, Soli, went to their new home right after their quarantine with us, whereas 10 year old Sonita, a gorgeous bay mare who was in foal, stayed. Five of these babies, Cheri, Belle, Evie, Deva, and Kahlua, are available to approved homes.

We didn't intend to go to any horse sales in the summer, but I received a call from someone on August 22nd asking whether I would trailer a 3 month old foal if she saved one out of a group of six; I could not say not, and she did get that foal...and I ended up at the auction mart that night, picking up the other 5 as well .... 1 colt was adopted right away, while Dakota, Molly, Cinnabar, and Aiden became available for adoption.
